The Baltimore City health department is encouraging people to get in touch if they’d like to apply for 2012 Subarau Healthy Sprouts Awards, which support greening efforts that educate children about healthy food and the environment. The health department is offering to review applications and offer guidance. Here’s the info:
This fall The National Gardening Association and Subaru Inc. are sponsoring the 2012 Subaru Healthy Sprouts Awards. Fifty awards of $400 are being presented to schools or community organizations that involve at least 15 children between the ages of 3 and 18 in local gardening projects. Awards will be given to projects that provide opportunities for youth to:
· Learn to nurture and care for other living things
· Learn to care for themselves
· Experience first-hand the growing of food
· Acquire the skills necessary to increase their future access to fresh vegetables
· Increase education about the environment, nutrition, and hunger issues
You can find out more and apply online by Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at http://grants.kidsgardening.org/2012-subaru-healthy-sprouts-award. Award winners are notified via email on Friday, November 30, 2012.
