Get Your Green On at PARKing Day – This Friday!

By September 19, 2012 No Comments

PARKing Day is fast upon us. “What is PARKing Day?” you ask. Oh, ’tis a glorious day filled with much joy and wonder. For you see PARKing Day is … well, I can’t say it any better than they can:

“PARK(ing) Day is an annual worldwide event where artists, designers and citizens transform metered parking spots into temporary public parks.”

Clear enough? As they did last year, landscape artists-extraordinaire and Exeter Gardens partner-org Mahan Rykiel will be setting up shop on The Avenue in Hampden this Friday, transforming… well, again, I’ll let these greening wizards speak for themselves:

“Mahan Rykiel will be transforming two parking spaces in front of ARTblocks at 834 W 36th St. in Hampden on Friday, Sept 21st. Mahan Rykiel’s second annual Park(ing) Day space will be a Farm to Table Café with an urban agriculture display. Their space will incorporate a vegetable garden display from various organizations and nurseries around Baltimore, as well as a plant your own seed station, opportunities for outdoor dining and seating, and a recipe exchange, which will provide examples of ways to prepare homecooked meals with the vegetables on display . They are inviting everyone to take part in their recipe exchange by bringing a simple recipe that uses fresh vegetables and donating it to their recipe display board. MRA designers will be staffing their space from 9-5 PM to discuss the design intent and answer questions about sustainable design and urban gardening.”
